Lorenzo Malandri

Lorenzo Malandri is a XXXI cycle PhD Candidate in Big Data Analytics at Politecnico di Milano. He joined Politecnico as a PhD student after he earned a Master of Research in "Management of Science and Operations" at the UCL (University College London) in 2015. Before this he worked as a consultant, notably for KPMG Italy in the Information Risk Management team. Previously he was an intern at General Electric in Milan where was conducting a project for the improvement of reports for Power Generation maintenance in South Europe. He earned Bachelor and Master degrees in Industrial Engineering at the University of Bologna, and developed his Master thesis at MIT on Pricing High Dimensional Financial Options using Robust Optimization. His research interests include Machine Learning, Business Analytics and Big Data, with a special focus in the development of novel methods for Text Mining and Sentiment Analysis and their application to business related problems.
Claudia Volpetti

Claudia Volpetti is a Researcher Phd Candidate in the DOOR research group at Politecnico di Milano. She has a degree with honors in Computer Science Engineering with Major in Business Administration and two Postgraduate Certificates in K12 Computer Science Education and Physics Education. She has previously worked as Research Fellow at the University of Rome Sapienza on Modeling and Simulation of Complex Systems and Complex Decision Making with a particular focus on the application of System Thinking, System Dynamics (SD) methodologies to Policies Evaluation. In 2015 she has been working on the design of a model aimed to analyze the effectiveness of the European Union Management of External Borders (MEB) and its consequences on Migration Flows in the Mediterranean Sea. From 2014 to 2016 she has been working as Project Manager on the ATTACS (Assessment of the socio-economic impacts of Terrorist Threats or Attacks following the Close down of public transportation Systems) European Project. The project - funded under the Terrorism & other Security-related Risks (CIPS) EU program - aimed to build a tool to support decision making in the field of transports protection.
